EASY Homemade Ice Cream

Jul 14, 2010

I have to admit up front, I have not yet tried this recipe.  But, I plan to do so in the next week.  I'll let you know how it goes - and please, if you make it, email me or comment on this post about how it turns out!

I not only write a blog, I also love to READ other blogs.  I came across the recipe today and thought I'd send some of my traffic over to Cook Like Your Grandmother!  He has the whole recipe posted with photos!

The recipe is for homemade ice cream - and ALL you need is bananas and MILK! AND, get this, the milk is OPTIONAL!!

You can also "jazz it up" with chocolate chips and strawberries!

I bet the kids will have fun helping out with this one (making it AND eating it!)

Okay, when it sounds too good to be true, well... I got excited about this so I went to the Cook Like Your Grandmother site and followed the recipe. The result? It tasted like frozen mashed up bananas-I even added heavy whipping cream to sugar it up a bit, but it wasn't much help. Pass on this one.

really? I still haven't tried it yet, but I have a friend from college who tried it last night and again today and LOVED it. She said both her boys thought it was awesome and she even reposted my blog post on her FB wall to tell her friends about it. I'll ask her to write a comment here to tell you what she did. Sorry it didn't work out for you!

I used really ripe bananas - not yet mushy but close. Froze them for a few hours and then blended with a little 1% milk. I had to scrape the sides of the blender a few times until it started to look like ice cream. Once it had an ice cream consistency, I stopped - I feared going any further would make it too liquidy. The boys truly loved it and asked if we can have it every night (guess I need to buy more bananas!) Perhaps your bananas weren't ripe enough or maybe you blended for too short or too long? It may not be for everyone - we don't often have ice cream here so it was a definite treat for us. Thanks again Kelly!
